Fast, cost-effective SAP onboarding for acquired units with Scheer PAS

Energy companies across the DACH region face increasing M&A activity, scattered IT landscapes, and ever-tighter timelines for international carve-ins. For Energieversorgung Niederösterreich (EVN), integrating new European business units into the central SAP core had to happen quickly and without the cost or risk of a ground-up SAP rollout.

Scheer PAS enabled EVN to connect legacy systems, in-house developments, and critical third-party infrastructure directly to its headquarters in Vienna, replacing SAP Business Connector with a lean, model-based approach. Adjustments that once took days now take hours, including testing and documentation. The result: greater ROI, real-time transparency, and collaboration across regions.

The challenge

Carve-in and integration without SAP rollouts or complexity

Following multiple cross-border acquisitions, EVN needed to connect non-SAP, locally developed systems from Bulgaria and Macedonia with the central SAP core in Vienna. A traditional SAP rollout was ruled out as too expensive and slow. At the same time, replacing SAP Business Connector with SAP PI proved too complex and resource-intensive for day-to-day integration needs. Fast, reliable onboarding for new teams was critical, despite language barriers and widely varying levels of IT maturity.

The solution

Scheer PAS: Model-based, multinational SAP integration

Scheer PAS delivered a lightweight, model-based integration platform that complemented SAP PI and swiftly replaced SAP Business Connector. Local legacy and in-house applications, industry platforms (e.g SIV), and B2B integrations, including SWIFT banking, were all onboarded with minimal server infrastructure and no disruption. The adoption of executable UML models improved transparency and supported effective cross-border collaboration. Complex SAP touchpoints are now manageable, adjustable, and fully documented in hours, not days.

The result

Productivity and transparency built for international scale

Interface changes or new integrations that once required days of effort are now handled in under four hours, including rollout to production and full documentation. Scheer PAS provides end-to-end engineering from process design through to live operation. Multicultural teams benefit from the clarity and accessibility of the model-based approach. EVN’s SAP environment is now agile enough to respond quickly to business requirements, while maintaining high performance and minimal server load, establishing a new productivity benchmark for international energy leaders.

What’s next

Positioned for future growth, M&A, and IT innovation

With a foundation of agile, model-driven SAP integration across 14 countries, EVN now has the platform to swiftly adapt to further acquisitions, regulatory changes, or process enhancements. Scheer PAS’s modular approach enables future integration projects, within or beyond SAP, to be delivered faster, with less risk and at lower cost, which ultimately supports the group’s growth ambitions and operational resilience.

"The high ROI was crucial for the decision to use Scheer PAS. The unique model‑based approach will lead to a significant increase in productivity throughout the company for years to come."
